I agree with Roy Saunders, that some of the players from the 50s & 60s that played for England should  be recognised.  In those days we paid for our ice time and practiced and played early mornings and late nights whenever the ice was available.

dear sir I agree with Graham   {del} e-mail the players from 50s 60s are forgotten men now I played for murrayfield 60s then paisley then back to murrayfield finishing up at fife flyers in 86 during which times I have great recollections of games against Wembley Lions, Southampton Vikings, Brighton Tigers Whitley Bay, and Durham
during my playing days I was privlaged
to play against and with some of the legends of the game which many deserve more recognition than some of the modern players yours in friendship Freddie Wood

I had the pleasure last week to have been in the company of some of the Great Britain team of the1950s/60s , Mike O'Brien ,Rupe Fresher Tony Whitehead John Cook ,why are some if not all of them not in your Hall of Fame   .Most of the names there i ,and i am sure many others have never even heard of , people associated with the game but never played it   .A hall of fame should be for outstanding  players not hangers on of the game.

    Roy and all,
I have been able to also contact a few ex-Nottingham players in the past.Wish to also at will email them again should I need their 'tales' for my writing on hockey. Some have replied recently to add comments to my latest venture. If anyone has contact with a player that I might be able to introduce myself to for future reference I'd be glad to hear from you on  spikc2004 , thanks.

So Roy, have you Rupe Freshers contact. That you may be able to ask hm if I can write/email him?

in you hall of fame item on sir arthur elvin you seem to imply that elvin was some sort of hockey superfan his actual
"first love" was speedway and without the massive crowds at wembley during the 40s and 50s wembley stadium would have been demolished before the 1966 world cup and the subsequent takeover by the f.a.and football of the running of the country in general

]Yes you are right Sir Arthur was not a super fan but did watch a lot of hockey from the restaurant.  He would not tolerate any rough play from his teams and I know of the notes he sent down to the bench warning the new players to clean up their act or be on the next plane to Canada

The reference to Lourdes being in Newfoundland was added by the person who rehashed my submitted Hall of Fame profile on Joe Beaton.

I have found no evidence that he was not born in Nova Scotia.

    Paul,

Joe was 5'-5" high and weighed 145 lbs.
He was featured on a British cigarette card produced by W.D. & H.O. Wills - number 37 in their series British Sporting Personalities.

He is also a member of the Nova Scotia Hall of Fame.

Hello I am Joe Beatons grand nephew.

I beleive he was born in small village called Port Hood or Mabou on Cape Breton Island which is the northern part of the province Nova Scotia.

The locale Lourdes part of Joes one time residence is correct. Lourdes is near Truro Nova Scotia. Lourdes NFLD  is a differnet town with the same name.

His brother Bobby is still alive and alert at age 94.He lives in Pictou County,NS and he even drives his own car. Bobby also played in the BNL with Streatham and he too played with the use of one eye damaging it as a young child.

Bobby I beleive would have info on his and his brothers playing days back in the old BNL.

Absence of Curtis Cruikshank from this years All-Star Teams   (2005-6) is a real head scratcher.

Cruikshank had a better save percentage of 0.933 to Koenig and Minard's 0.925's and a better Goals Against Average of only 2.04 to Koenig's 2.23 and Minard's 2.33.

And on top of that he had not 1, not two, not three...but eight shut outs!

Why didn't he make the All-star team therefore?
