Hi been looking for your church last wed 3rd Oct trying to locate parent home in penshaw but got lost and ran out of time, was looking for address named THE SQUARE? no one had heard of it date 1913, got info Birh cert, from Sunderland was reasont ime ran out! do you know how or anyone who would know this place in that year I wold like to see it although it might not exist to-day Thanking you B/rgds Brian McDonough Wigan
Webmaster: Was this square in Hougthon or Penshaw? I think maybe your best bet is to try some old maps thrugh the ordanance survey. for example:www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk and see historic maps. There are also numerous publications of old photos of houghton and penshaw available in the sunderland libraries.

Nicky Just an update on this...I caught someone doing some research on the durham archive website and they have some really old maps on there too! worth a try
